St. Patricks Day and Me
There is something about St. Patrick’s Day
, were I just start thinking about what would have it been like for my family members and others who traveled by boat in the 1800′s for months for a chance to start a new life in an unknown place. I would have been scared shit-less, not knowing if I or any of my family members or friends would die while sailing across the atlantic or if any of us would be turned away once we landed. There are days where I had a time machine just so I could see what they had to deal with. To even ask those of my family who did do the journey why did they do it?
With that, I’m a proud 4th and 6th generation Canadian (depends on what side of the family you look at) but I have always called myself a Canadian with a hint of Irish, Scottish and English blood or a Canadian-UK mutt.
I didn’t really do much today other then head to my favourite Irish Pub for lunch for a guinness and mushy peas….. Yum. If I could stand the taste of light beer, I’d order a green beer but since I’m not I’ll stick with a good Irish classic.
How was everyone’s St. Patrick’s Day err Tuesday??

Hi, the name is Kimm, I'm a 30 year old Canadian who has been online since 1999. For the last 16 years my main passion has been dragon boating where I've eaten, slept and breathed it and raced all over North America.

I made a green shake. If I was not on this cleanse I would have gone for a green beer for sure.

we had a good St.paddys. Went to the one of the pubs, got to drink green beer! and just hung out with friends.
Found out I have irish in me from my mum’s side. Must account for the red beard I have. English is on my dad’s side. I’m a evil mix! lol

Mine was great, as it is also James’ birthday. We celebrated by going to dinner.

I’d like to go one of these days and visit all the family I have (in scotland, ireland, england) there but never met
But 1st I need the money and the time off to do it
Beer & mushed peas? *shudders* To each their own, I guess.
I’m jealous of your heritage. I’m just… Nordic, like everyone else here.

I’m Irish but I’m also a Witch. I no longer celebrate St. Patty’s day because in reality you are celebrating a dude from Scotland who ‘drove the serpents to the sea’ serpent is another name for Pagan or Witch the climate isn’t right for snakes never has been. So in reality I’m celebrating my people getting killed for what they believe in? Not so much. I’m not celebrating a mass murder and a religious one at that.

GREAT to see you at the MEET n’ GREET Kimm!
My St. Patrick’s Day started off poorly, but it evolved into a nice evening with friends (although I did leave by 10 as I had to be up early)
I hope yours was as great as it sounded (despite the mushy peas… I personally HATE those)
Cheers,
T.

Hi There,
Netchick sent me.
What a great way to turn St. Patrick’s Day into a time of reflection!
On a totally different note, pub food is the best! Sorry about the mushy peas – unless of course you like them that way.

No St. Patrick’s Day on this side of the pond, unfortunately. My forefathers were not adventurous enough to hop on a boat to an unknown side of the world.
Queen’s bday is coming up though, which is celebrated in much the same way: with lots and lots of boooooooze!
St. Patrick’s day passed this year and I didn’t even know about it! I remember hearing it everywhere though (eg. on news, radio) but I just kinda brushed it off and then the next day I was like.. WTH St. Patrick’s day was yesterday?! I think it’s so much easier remembering these occasions when your still in school because you are constantly reminded by teachers, school events, etc.
