C4AC #2 – Reading Labels

Ever since I started reacting to eating anything from the onion family, shopping for food products have been a chore reading every label. 95% of the recipes you see on the food channel and or read in books have onions somewhere in the recipe. I feel bad for those who do have a food allergy; it’s not fun at all.

With that I started figuring out what food I really enjoy that does have onions in it normally that I can sub in or not have any in at all. I came up with a more peppery version of a Greek Salad which became a main staple side dish or dish on its own.
Pepper Salad (serves about 6)
Feta Cheese – Chucky Cubes
Grape Tomatoes – Cut in half or left as a hole
3 Bell Peppers per colour – Red, Orange, Yellow, Green (if you can find other flavours like Blue Jay Pepper [blue/purple] add it as well)
Raspberry Vinaigrette – I found Auntie Annie’s works wonders (or homemade)
What food dish inspired you to increase your own?

When I go to the grocery store I wish the labels were all turned to show the calorie information
I have to spend forever turning them all to compare.

I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve never really paid attention to what goes into things, let alone what I’m eating. I really should, shouldn’t I?

I absolutely LOVE
onions in everything except desserts.
I’m not a fan of feta tho.

Oh, goodness, I love feta! Having food allergies must be so hard
I know a guy who is allergic to the most awfully common things… it’s like.. wheat and corn and stuff. I don’t even know how he survives.
I spice my own ramen, does that count?

Mmmm… feta! I recently “discovered” it (I’m the only one into cheese in my family). I love it! I can’t imagine being allergic to onions though, or having reactions to it.

I’ve never eaten feta cheese. It scares me. It’s scary looking. :zoned: I’m not allergic to anything, thankfully.
