C4AC #2 – The Annoyance of Clothing Stores

I decided it was about time to find some more clothes that fit this new body shape since a good half of my clothes aren’t wearable anymore they just look to baggy on me. So have been surfing around getting ideas from a few store websites so by the time I head into the mall I get a better idea but when visited a few stores I got a headache.
Don’t mind places like Old Navy but I dislike their website. If your gonna show clothing for people in all sizes (0 – 22+) why not find models that fit those sizes category instead of having a size 0 – 4 models picture for every product even in the pregnant section. Sure it maybe cheaper but for me if I don’t see a model/picture of someone in the outfit in my size clothing without curves or MY rack size, I’m not going to purchase it. :|
Also been noticing with a few other huge name brand stores that they may show about 10 outfits of their up and coming season and that’s it. So by the time your in the mall you find out they target the petite crowd (Under 5ft’3, up to size 6). Why can’t people put a disclaimer on the site saying we are targeting this kind of customer since the company already has it on the stores window? Oi.
I guess this is the reason why I dislike fashion so much. I’m either to big for some of the clothing or to tall.

Hi There! Welcome to Paddling-Geek.Net (PGN for short).

I’m having the opposite problem. I shop in Maurices a lot and they added more plus size stuff last year. I’m all for that but last time I tried to shop for a skirt (Easter) they had to take one off the mannequin because every skirt in the store was size 14+
I think the problem is the way they stock. Certain types of clothes look best on different body types. I look horrible in a v-neck, for instance. Maybe they should stock based on what the style the outfit is and take pictures of women who look good in that style, whatever their size! It’s sure help us figure out what to wear. They KNOW what looks best I don’t know why they don’t think to stock it that way.

I was shocked when I noticed that HipsandCurves.com actually had plus size models (none that look like me because I have a non flat tummy).
I hate clothing shopping, it could be why I have not changed my style since I was 17! *hides* … I tend to stick to the same stores, and it has not been until recently that I have begun to switch over to more “grown up” stores. Such as Reitmans (they have a great range of clothing sizes!) and yes I have been known to shop at Marks Work Warehouse! …. I still grab my jeans at Bluenotes, as they are cheap and often very affordable.
I am also like you, I check their website for new items, or just to get an idea of what I “might” be wanting. I also agree with you on the clothing models on these site, sometimes they do not look real, and how exactly will that same pair or pants or top fit someone if they were 3 or 4 sizes bigger?

I must have it easy as a guy. If it fits, I wear it. Although.. I did have better luck when I was younger and all.. something all this extra weight I’ve put on over the years..

I know what you mean about tiny models wearing the “plus” sized clothing. It doesn’t really help me shop at all. Have you tried Torrid?
