Err, make that hunting for a new job…
I lasted until my birthday before I quit the job I started back in November. I just could not handle the pigs that I worked with (I can handle some manly BS but those guys were just UGH!), or the part where you gave the store what days you can work for 3 months and yet they give you a next week schedule on the Thursday, so I had to come in on my day off to see when I was working. The part that really pissed me off since day 1 was I said I couldn’t work Saturdays and I was always put down to work.
Filling out application forms today and the wage question always gets me, cause I’ve never could understood why companies ask you how much your wage should be. How would I know how much the job is worth or am I worth? As a coach or at a real job, I don’t have a set price what I want to be paid per hour/per session). But if I was to say run a few paddling camps thought the summer that should be one price (set by the club) and if I coached a team then that should be another price (set by the team not the coach). Some coaches only want their set amount instead of different wages for different events.. not a lot of teams can afford a coach from $25 – $100+ per session. But at the same time I don’t want to go back anything under $11/hour… unless I really have to.
Just submitted a lot more resumes today, hopefully I hear back from at least one.

Hi There! Welcome to Paddling-Geek.Net (PGN for short).

Any time I’ve ever filled out a paper application, when it comes to ‘wage’ I’ve always put down ‘negotiable’.
Basically means “look at my resume, if you like me, interview me, then we’ll talk money”
I remember doing the job hunt thing. I hated it, but didnt last too long.
Now it’s the going back to school thing I am looking into. Good luck and I hope you snag something fun!

Around here the wage question only comes up in interviews. On applications, they usually just ask what your wages were at previous jobs that you have held. I never know how to answer that when I am asked either. If I say less than they were going to offer me, they might just offer what I asked and I lose out. On the other hand, if I say more than they might have offered, it might make me appear greedy and selfish. It’s a doosie.

Best of luck with the job hunt again Kimm, my offer still stands to go over your resume and cover letters!
I would typically put “negotiable” if it was asking for your suggested wage, though I would personally not take anything less than $14 for my profession, but I have loads of qualifications. Have you considered going into Daycare? Even just an out of school care on a part-time basis, typically start at $11 or $12. as I know you often say how you want an evening shift so your days are a little more freed up for dragon boating.
My Fingers are crossed for you@

I’ve never actually had to fill out the wage part. I’ve never seen it. :/ Best of luck.
I think the wage question is simply used to evaluate what you think the value of the job is and to eliminate those who want to get paid more than their worth. I’ve always written the word negotiable in and simply ask during the interview.
