1950 housewife, am not
Joking around with Tyler the other day, that I feel like a 1950 housewife but minus the dress and heels (since I don’t own a dress and can’t stand heels). Though he thinks I should purchase both just to fill out the role perfectly. HA no! But thankfully since I’m not really working at this moment he been keeping me sane as all it seems these days, that am I’m doing is cleaning. I’m still trying to get this place dust free from the renos and having 4 cats a cocktail in the middle of shedding their winter coats isn’t fun either.
Maybe I do have a 1950 house wife mindset (or tree hugging hippie) when it comes to making my own cleaning chemicals like water and vinegar. From what we can purchase these days I find are they way to toxic and if I get headaches from store bought products, then I don’t want them in my house harming my family or pets.
With the weather has been amazing lately, I’ve been using our clothesline every chance I get when I’ve been doing laundry. There is something about the smell of air dried clothing in the summer months. If I didn’t live in a wet climate, I would be using my clothes line a lot more though out the year. I grew up with clothes lines and I think they are a great way to save money over the summer months. So let the wind can dry your clothes for free, so you can have extra spending $$ around the holidays.
Have you used vinegar and water as a cleaner?
Do you use a clothes line? (if your city by law allows it)
If you haven’t, would you?

Hi, the name is Kimm, I'm a 30 year old Canadian who has been online since 1999. For the last 16 years my main passion has been dragon boating where I've eaten, slept and breathed it and raced all over North America.

I use vinegar and water :P I completely agree. I couldn’t stand the chemical cleaners anymore.
I’ve never used vinegar and water. what is it good for? Or is it all purpose? Water just dilutes the vinegar right?
I would hang clothes out in the to dry, but Vancouver Bylaw states we cannot hang garments over our balcony railings etc. Which is ok, I dont want to see granny panties waving in the air from the apartment building across the street
One of our houses, I put in a clothes line thing, the one that looks like a reverse umbrella. that was nice. Our house in Victoria had a clothes line from the house to the back corner of the yard which was cool. Saves money on drying, dyers are sooo energy inefficient..

I don’t think I could ever use store bought cleaners but I don’t think I could use natural household products as cleaners either. I use green, non toxic, products.

I used to work in hospital maintenance so I’m stuck in the “chemicals are goooood” frame of mind. When I clean, I scrub bacteria out with every smelly liquid I can find in the house.
I’d use a clothes line if bf wasn’t so against it. We have our own yard yet he insists I spread the laundry on a portable laundry table of sorts, and I hate it. I will definitely one day have a clothes line. *shakes fist* I shall! I think a bit of fresh air to dry up laundry would do nothing but good to the clothing!
[rq=8461,0,blog][/rq]I must be emo. And a drama queen to boot.
Making your home cleaning chemicals is so clever. I wish I knew some of those. I always have to look them up online, but I’m too lazy for that so I end up buying some really strong chemical that make my head spin. Not good.

I like using house hold chemicals, though I use stronger stuff for tougher areas. I use vinegar and water when I clean my microwave and oven, plus I add a few drops of lemon juice for that lemon fresh smell!
I remember having an outside clothing hanger. It was like an upside down umbrella, and my mom would hang our clothes out to dry in the backyard. I always wanted a real clothing line that goes from the top balcony corner all the way to the backyard corner.
I will have my outdoor clothing line. I currently just use up all my coat hangers and hang dry around my place my wet clothing (mainly hang them all to dry in my den)
Aidan´s last blog ..I ain’t dead, yet!
That’s great! I wish I knew how to do that. I use mild earth friendly cleaning products, but making my own would be even better!
Maybe you could post some recipes?
