Comment for a Cause (C4AC) is back for it’s 3rd year. C4AC is my way to raises funds & awareness. This year I’ve picked Right to Play as my charity of choice. Each comment this site gets equals $1 that I will be donating at the end of the month.. Don’t forget to keep up to date by subscribing to my rss feed
Other day when I was working out this years budget and I just realized how much money I have spent in the last 16 years in my beloved sport of Dragon Boating. Sure I could have quit the sport and saved that money for a house in one of the best areas in Vancouver but I rather paddle and live where I am out in the boonies because there are less snobs and cheap rent is good.
More I think about it, the more I might want to get another job and have this job where I am at now and have it to pay for my paddling addiction and maybe my bobsledding addiction (going to be trying the sport in the Summer and use that as my cross trainer). Guess I should crunch some more numbers and figure how much sleep I’ll be getting before I apply for another job.
Would you get a second job just to help with your sport/hobby’s addiction?
As of today Comment for a Cause has raised over $43. Thanks everyone who has commented daily.

Hi There! Welcome to Paddling-Geek.Net (PGN for short).

I think if you’re really passionate about something, you should spend whatever you need to spend. Bryan’s really into the rockband drums and God knows he’s spent a fortune on his professional drum set, but I let him because it really makes him happy.
My hobby’s shopping, lol. I shop, but rarely buy anything, so luckily, it doesn’t cost much.
Well, I guess we’ve spend a lot of money on exercise equipment. Certainly not second job worthy, but a good part of our money last year went to the elliptical. I spend a lot on DVDs, weights, heart rate monitor, pedometer … but I use the stuff every day, so it’s worth it, especially if it’s for my health.
When I played softball competitively and year round, I did fundraising to pay for a lot of my team’s expenses. We also did a lot of car washes and we did advertising in a journal that we handed out at our tournaments.
I think if I was really in love with something that I’d do the extra work to help provide for my passion until it made me miserable.
It’s kind of like me funding my craft hobbies. If I didn’t make jewellery and knit and crochet, I’d probably have a lot more money than I do now, instead of an awesome bead and yarn stash! The same goes for my dolls, if I didn’t get into them, I’d have a lot more money than I do – but if it’s worth it to you to spend the money on that, then why wouldn’t you? Everyone needs something for themselves =)
Would I get a second job to support a sport or hobby? Probably not – I’d likely cut back or look for something less expensive. That said, I feel that supporting yourself in sports is definitely important – I feel guilty for allowing myself to become as sedentary as I am, so I can’t imagine how I’d feel if I cut back completely.
