I don’t get it! Why should I need to sign up for username on an commenting system/networking site (whatever you wanna call it), just so I can come back and comment on your site? Is it to control who’s leaving comments or is it a numbers game? To me it is more of annoyance. 
What is wrong with the simple already user-friendly comment code that is in your blogging platform (ie. wordpress/blogger) already.

I think bloggers assume it’s more convenient for people since almost everyone has an *insert site here* account.
I personally prefer it because I don’t like typing in my name, lol.

I can’t say that I’ve ever run into this issue on any personal blogs, though I have seen it on many technology blogs. I think part of it in the commercial tech blog space is that it can be an additional deterrent of comment spam and trolling.
