If you know me, you know that I love sports not just paddling related sports but also North American style football (CFL, NFL) and bobsled. You might ask why bobsled and not just because of the yummy guys on the Canadian and American teams but because I just love the sport in general and it’s something I’ve always wanted to get into somehow around my paddling.

Just a few years ago at the 2002 Olympics, Women Bobsled debut and now in 2011 four very lucky US ladies got to do a trail on a fourwomen team. I’ve always wonder when the day would be when there was gonna be a fourwomen crew, now to wait and see if it catches on.

Depending on my racing schedule this summer …. I might take part in a try out or at least watch one (from a far lol)

I’m all for emailing, texting, twittering, facebooking someone but sometimes picking up the phone and talking to someone is way better conversation then just reading words on a screen of some sort.

Since Easter is coming up and I hadn’t hear what my family was doing so I was looking into doing something else with some friends, so I decided to write onto my facebook page tonight about who’s wanting to come over for Easter… mostly as an inside joke with my closest friends who live elsewhere.

Within seconds of posting that my cousin decides to text me not pick up the phone and mention that didn’t you hear we are hosting Easter this year.. They thought that his mom was gonna mention to my mom and then have her pass on to my brother and I about this dinner? Hmm No! That’s not how it works buddy.. After telling him that no one in my family knew about this dinner, he quickly phoned my mom to make sure she knew about the dinner.

Now personally I really wish I didn’t learn about this dinner and been a no show. I don’t care if that’s rude but if you don’t take the time to personally invite your guests then how would they know if you got the invite?? But I guess I should go since I just received an invite via text and now one on facebook.

While waiting for youtube to finish uploading a video I posted this afternoon from yesterdays regatta, I glanced down at one of my rings and thought that would be a great ankle tattoo. But I’m not gonna get a new ink until after this season is over.

Back in high school I use to doodle all the time in class and instead of flowers or hearts with a guys name in them, I’d draw aliens not sure why I guess I’m just unique like that.. So now I’m thinking about getting a tattoo of that to remind me of my youth and what’s more to come..

I think it’s just gonna be the alien with it’s crown, but it is fun to get ideas of what my next tat’s are gonna be

Hmm where to start…

This morning putting together my go pro camera after charging the battery over night, the black plastic clip on the outer cover broke, which really annoyed me as I could have gotten some amazing shots of our clubs races from inside of the boat today. Still was able to get some video/still pictures but not as many as I’d like due to the race venue and it was really cold and gross out until the last race of the day.

This regatta is a great season opener for all teams new and old as it’s just 200m sprints instead of the normally 500m races. I always forget how short a 200m race is, it’s mostly a start, a strong power 10 with a few strokes then a finish and you should have a time either just under a minute or just over depending if the current and the wind.. With my shoulder I wasn’t sure how I’d feel and it wasn’t bad at all, but because I didn’t know I asked to sit off a race just in case. Plus I don’t mind sitting off and allowing another team member a chance to race.

Our last race of the day was just awesome as we were battling the wind and the current and everyone just got it together and paddled as one. We were against our youth team, another valley team and a team from my old neck of the woods. It was a very tight race (which I love being in/watching) and the other valley team placed 1st, we placed 2nd and our youth team came in 3rd.

When I got home this evening I noticed I got a bit of a sun tan. I’m really looking forward tomorrow as I can just relax and sleep in. 5:30 was a tad to early this morning for me.

Happy Friday!

A few posts back I mentioned about my injured shoulder and how our 1st race of the season is coming up, well tomorrow is the big day.

Normally the night before a race I’m always trying to be as calm that I can be so I can sleep really well and be on my A game tomorrow. Though I wonder how much sleep I’ll really get tonight as I came home after some running around, sat on the couch and woke up 3 hours later, so now I’m trying to finish getting everything prepped before I had back to bed in a few minutes.

I still recall what my mom mentioned to me before my 1st race, 17 years ago “Harness your nervous butterflies and let them take you to victory”. Ever since then I’ve always reminded myself of that saying and we’ve normally kicked butt.

What do you do with your nervous butterflies?

My cousins fiancee been babbling on about this don’t buy gas tomorrow nonsense, it may sound like a good idea but if you really look into it. Not purchasing gas on a set day isn’t gonna do anything as your are gonna fill up or have already your vehicle this week in gas.

Always seen things as half full, and always two sides to the story kind of person. The price of gas will keep increasing even if nobody likes it as there are A LOT cars on the road, but yet more greener cars and fuel is being harder to find. For example if you look at any public transport ie, ferries, transit buses they might have a full load of people one trip and barely anyone the next. They aren’t gonna stop running because they don’t have the max number of people on board.

Sure I was personally venting the other day about how much I personally pay for gas on my car.. Now try being the person who deals with public transit and how much it costs to fill up every bus in the city. Would not want to be in their shoes at all.

Though I’ve always thought instead of just increasing the ticket prices and making the people in the ‘burbs folk out more money. Is to have more buses out there servicing all over the place, non of this lack of service on Sunday bull crap anymore and have long hours of running on Thursday to Sunday nights/Monday morning for those who work at pubs and or are coming home from a pub. Also though about having different pay grid for different areas is stupid.. Just make it one grid for the whole city so it doesn’t matter if you are just traveling in the city or to the ‘burbs. I dunno.. to me it makes sense..

I do live on a Wet West Coast, I should be use to this wetstuff but lately I’m just getting tired of hearing it and or driving in it. Rather have a few days of sun or cloud or rain but not weeks worth all at once. Because of this rain the drive out to practice was crazy, and I’m sure it mostly had to do with the Canucks being in the playoffs.. Saw at least 3 accidents and someone almost got me because they were tailgating me.. Doesn’t anyone look more then just the car in front of them when they drive?

As I got to practice tonight and started prepping my go pro camera for our steersmen to wear, the weather went from the normal cat and dog saying to a lot heavier and gross (ie rhinos and elephants) so badly that within seconds of stepping out of the car to take pictures/video of the whitecaps, I was soaked from head to toe. Thankfully practice was relocated inside a very warm pub.

I really hope this rain forecast isn’t gonna follow us to every regatta like it did last year.

Just about to head back into work and notice I forgot to post something… So here is a local school video that’s awesome, been seeing a lot of videos like these popping up everywhere. I’ve been caught the video bug again and I’m working on a few ideas for my clubs year end/next years promo video..

Since I got those flowers all my cats have been sniffing them out, I’m sure by tomorrow there will be teethmarks on some of the flowers. I like how they just make the place look more spring like even though mother nature couldn’t make up her mind of what the weather should be like today..

Heading into work it was nice and sunny but windy like hell, by the afternoon depending on which intersection you were at it was either sunny or hailing. Hopefully the weather is gonna be nice for us this weekend as its the 1st race of the season and dealing with cold damp (and whiny) paddlers aren’t fun in between races and or my cup of tea.
