Social Networking and Personal Branding go hand in hand which most people have forgotten about these days. Everyone thinks its all about online persona but it’s not.

Personal Branding is another way of saying how do you present and carry yourself with your attitude, appearance. Just like in a job interview and or on that 1st date with someone. How you present yourself in person should be more important then how many rss readers you have or how many comments your blog gets per day.

People are using the web (facebook, myspace, twitter) to market themselves and or their company. Even those of us who are using the web for personal enjoyments (aka hobby) we still need to head smart on what get posted online. As we’ve all been told over the years that what you post online CAN bite you back in the ass hard later on. You don’t want to be fired from your job just because you wrote “I’m bored” on twitter or on facebook when you should be working and your boss also follows you.

There are some almost 19 years old on my facebook account (former kids I coached) who have pictures of them drinking and list their place of work. Two of them also started doing the webcam poses in small clothing on personal website. They get a lot of hits from what I hear but its the wrong kind of attention they are getting I’m worried about… I just want to shake some scene into them, I would call the parents BUT I don’t have their phone numbers anymore.

It boggles my mind people would do something like that just to get noticed. It might get you popular and known online but is it worth it?

What you do/say online can also brand you for whole online life.

This morning, I decided that I wanted to see where I was at from the surgery, so I jumped on board the MS team’s boat. Which was nice as there was some newbies out who needed some help so I sat beside them in the boat and worked with them. While trying not to be stupid and or the normal stubborn person that I am and paddle though the pain. It might be a tad to early still as the only thing I found annoying was I wasn’t able to sit as comfy like I normally can, I may have to purchase myself a butt pad (after 15 years of not needing one).

I would LOVE  to be on the water as soon as I can but I don’t want to be stupid and push it either, so I had to try it on a team that I know that wouldn’t be pushing it to hard. After the practice I went to the 1st regatta of the 2009 season for the local dragon boating community. I missed the two races in the morning but came in time to watch both of our crews afternoon races. Its nice to be known in the db community but sometimes, at these events the “hi, Kimm” gets just a little to much.

The regatta had 50 teams showing off what they got for a 200 meter race. In the category we raced in, the team I’m trying for placed 4th out of 30 and our 2nd crew placed 26th (not bad for a team of a lot of 1st time paddlers). :paddle2: The venue was amazing and so was the weather. I can’t wait for my 1st race of the season. :hyper:

I’ve almost fallen asleep twice writing this, I think too much fresh air and a bit to much sun. Have a good night.
