How did you celebrate your Earth Day? I spent most of my day driving around Vancouver and its surrounding areas which I wasn’t really happy about, though I saw an amazing sunset. When I was driving I saw a bummer sticker and I started to laugh because it said “Fear God not humans” It should say Fear Mother Nature as she the one to made us…

Congrats to Raul for making it 4 years in the Blogging world, sorry I wasn’t able to make it to your party but from the sounds of it everyone is having a blast.

Today was an awesome day, Karen and I had a mid afternoon exec meeting for #H2OGeeks which is our twitter/social media Dragon Boat team (which I formed last year). Both of us can’t wait for this up and coming season as we are taking part in two regattas this summer and have 3/4 of the team from last year returning.

I’m still in aw that this team kicked butt last year at Paddle for Kids, here I thought we’d be ranked in the lower bunch but to my surprise we placed 7th overall out of 24 teams and some of them were real dragon boat teams that practice all year long. I wonder what this season has in store for us.

If you are from the Vancouver (BC) area and are interested in trying out dragon boating or wanting to join us please let me know asap as spots are filling up fast

Speaking about twitter and dragon boating, two Florida dragonboaters (who twitter) have put a team together of dragonboaters (who are active on twitter) for a festival happening next month, they are calling themselves Tweam Dragon Boat Team. It would be cool to take part in this dragonboat “tweet up” if you want to call it that but couldn’t get time off work. Hope those who take part have an awesome time!

Comment for a Cause (C4AC) is back for it’s 3rd year. C4AC is my way to raises funds & awareness. This year I’ve picked Right to Play as my charity of choice. Each comment this site gets equals $1 that I will be donating at the end of the month.. Don’t forget to keep up to date by subscribing to my rss feed

I’ve known Kimm for a few years now so when she asked me to be a guest blogger I was stoked. Sadly, I have a lack of inspiration on what to write about. I’m lame like that but since I didn’t want to let her down I decided what could be better than giving her a simple interview. Since I don’t know much background on her project I hope that her answers to my questions will help anyone reading understand it a bit better.

What is Comment for a Cause?
- Comment for a cause or C4ac for short is basically get the readers involved and raising money for a great cause and each year the charity changes.

How did you get into hosting C4AC?
- About 4 years ago, I noticed the pink for October website and wanted to do something more then just change my layout a colour for a month. By the next year I came up with Comment for a Cause where my readers decide how much I will donate to a charity that I choose.

I know you run C4AC every April, how far back does it go and why April?
- This is the 3rd year of c4ac, I first started this back in October for 13 days but after that trial period I thought of trying it in the spring and its been like that since.

What cause does the money support and how do you decide?
- This year I had to flip a coin to see who I wanted to support.

How do you choose the causes? I know you said you flip a coin, but how do you go about finding a cause to be interested in?
- Either by something that is close to my heart that I’m involved in OR see/hear a mention about a cause and look into it.

What cause will you choose this year and what is your goal?
- This year I’m raising money for Right to Play, I would love to raise more then $300

How much have you raised for causes so far?
- $79 the 1st year and $186 last year so in totally $265.

How do you decide what to write about daily?
- I bring out my big calendar to look at what’s happening like earth day, easter etc.. just so I can work around those days/posts then the rest are filled in by either a topic I want to talk about.

Aside from hosting up this kickass project, what are some of your hobbies and goals?
- Other than my sports, nothing really! I coach the H20Geeks team, which is a twitter dragonboat team. It’s an awesome feeling to participate and I encourage anyone who hasn’t dragonboated before to try the sport and raise money for the BC Children’s Hospital.

How do you think that C4AC has made you a better person?
- I’m not sure. It has made me a little more aware of the problems in the world and is a way for me to give back.

Is there anything your readers can do aside from comment daily to help support your cause?
- If anyone wants to help by writing a guest post they are more then welcome to, mentioning about this on their own blogs and or starting up their own c4ac for a charity of their choice.

So ladies and gents, there you have it. I have to really commend Kimm and what she’s doing here. It goes to show that the world still has compassionate people who want to help bring some change. I can only hope that you all take the time to comment and spread the word for Kimm’s project. After all she is matching her own cash per comment rather than spend it on the latest video game or night out like most people. All it takes is one comment a day to help contribute.

Rock on Kimm!

This guest post is brought to you by the awesomesauce-ness of the crazy Dez of DeltaEchoZulu.com.

Silly as it sounds, it just clicked the other day when I was talking to a long time net friend. That we’ve been friends now for 10 years and it also means its my onlineversary. Even though I got an email account in 1995, I wasn’t really into the interacting with people in chat-rooms and what not until the fall after I graduated high school.

Within the 10 years I’ve been online, there has been a lot of changes. I remember Bolt.com one of the first networking sites out there, to everyone having a site(s) on geocites, to if you weren’t hosted by someone/had your own domain you were looked down a upon. Even the battle of who’s browser is better internet explore vs netscape (at the time) now internet explore is against firefox, safari, chrome, opera etc. One thing I don’t miss is the ever so many webrings, tagboards and annoying pop ups on peoples sites.

I still think its neat that I’m still use two of my original screen names/email accounts from 1999.. They are now used mostly for my long time friends/family on chat and to collect all my junk email. All my paddlinggeek screen names have everyone else I talk to on chat.

How many screen names have you gone though before you found the perfect one?
Do you still use any of them?

<img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2633/3951160043_3627fb53fa_o.jpg" width="124" height="300" alt="New dragon boat paddle" align="left" vspace=2" hspace="2"/> Over the weekend at my last dragon boat festival of the season, my mom (who came up to be support) noticed one of the booths was selling the brand of paddles that I’ve been eying since early spring. On Saturday after my races, I came back to the room and noticed there was a Kialoa paddle lying across the bed, It didn’t click until I saw the paddle why my mom was asking what length of paddle I wanted if I got a new one. But boy did she surprise me. One of the reasons why I was drawn to the paddle was it’s t-grip and how comfy it felt.

For those that remember this paddle is replacing the Apex paddle that broke in half back in July. I only owned the apex for 9 or so months, oh well shit happens.. Its gonna be wall art once I get it fixed. I was told this will be part of my christmas present so now I have to act surprised on christmas morning when she puts a bow on it.

When I was surfing around on the net looking up information for when I get my next paddle, I noticed there are 27 different dragon boat paddle brands that are approved by the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF). Which got me thinking about how it would be a neat challenge to try them all out. Not do it as a one paddle, one day kind of trial but do it over a season or even half a season to find out how does the paddle handle in our year long weather conditions, and our different water/wind conditions, does it matter what boat your in/where your sitting, is it to heavy or light (can it cause damage to the body) all that good information.

Since I now own four different dragon boat paddle brands, I’m debating if I want to start writing reviews on paddling equipment (paddles, pfds etc), Though I’m not looking forward to seeing how much its gonna cost me.

Do you or would you write a review cause you love the product or for the money?

Also got me thinking about this year’s dry-land training routine since my 15th dragon boating season almost coming to an end in a few days.

I’m thinking about take up land paddling (a long board with a kahuna big stick) as my cross trainer this off season instead 6man outrigger, I’m looking forward not having to travel an hour to/from get to practice especially on those crappy nights.

It may not be the correct stroke that I do but from the videos I’ve been looking at, you can get a lot of good top arm drive, the whole body gets a workout and just think about the balance one can get from that too. Using this and my other core exercises would for sure help strengthen my core muscles that I lost due to the surgery I had back in April.

I want to be on the A boat next year, which means there is a lot of work a head of me to do.

What do you do the spice up your exercise routine?
Would you use a sport to strengthen another sport?
