Paddling-Geek.Net(PGN) turned six years ago back in June (where did the time go?) since then I was working on a new layout for this site but it wasn’t until two Fridays ago, when I was finally had time to change the layout to “Dancing in the Wind”. The photo reminds me that without the wind everything would be standing still, looking lifeless. I took this photo last year when I was one of the people teaching grade 6-7 students how to dragon boat for a month.

Still can’t believe that this is the ninth layout ever made for PGN. Still have to fix the Exit/Link page (never update when tired) and update the Domain page and tweak the layout a bit, not sure why I can’t view the site on my ipod’s touch with the wptouch plugin. :ugh: Guess its time to start tinkering, if anything else is needing to be updated/fixed please let me know.

When I was looking around for ideas on how I want this layout to look like, I noticed not that many people do the calendars with the icons or use smilies anymore. I may be a few web trends behind because I still like using them, though I find they help break up the page instead of just seeing a full screen of text :stickygum:

Speaking of changes, last Friday, I just fed up with my long hair. The heat wave that we recently had did a number on my hair so I decide to cut 13 inches off to just above my shoulders. Now that I have all natural coloured hair (stopped colouring it about four years but for the tips. [as they were already damaged/coloured hair]) Now I’m finally able to grow out my hair (again) but this time it will be donated for a child’s wig. Which I’ve wanted to do for the last ten years. :hyper2:

With the new hair cut, I went shopping and to my amaze I was able to find two pairs of shoes and three of the five pair of clothing I found on sale. Normally, I am never that lucky. Now if I could be that lucky in the guy department. LOL! :hyper:

:crown: Thank you all for the lovely comments in the last post. I too never knew that birds could live that long. It wasn’t until she passed on I google about the life span on Cocktails and some websites say they could live until they are 30. :zoned: I think I was in more tears :( when I cleaned the bird cage and her stuff for the last time then I noticed she had passed on. :flower:

What was/is the worst website web trend that people still use on their website?
What is the best website web trend out that is out there, and why?

Racing in a storm

Its almost a week since I posted oops (brain has been elsewhere with this heatwave).

The racing was great on Saturday I raced in 3 of our 4 races and I only raced in 2 of the ladies races which was fine for me didn’t want to over do it on a hot day. As we were warming up for our last race of the day the heavens decided to open by the time we were about to start our race the thunder and lighting started so the event organizers canceled the rest of the regatta. I think this is the 2nd regatta that got cancel half way though due to mother nature (the 1st one was two years ago where the wind was nasty and the white caps looked like we were in Hawaii)

In the end 4 heats of 4 boats (so 20 teams.. one of them being our A boat) each did not get a chance to race in the finals. Instead we all have an interesting story to tell as we got to see it before the rest of the lower-mainland did.

This wasn’t a normal thunderstorm either it was a sun storm, the lighting went from cloud to cloud mostly. When I got home I looked outside at the power lines near the house and noticed lighting hitting the same rod more then once. I was surprised that Vancouver still held their annual summer fireworks display.

While the fireworks were going on, I was hanging out with Gary, Rainer until 2:30 in the morning as they took part in the Blogathon.

So now I can say I’ve paddled in a thunderstorm/sun storm, hail (x4), white caps/nasty wind, snow(x3), smoke haze (there was a fire near by), fog, on the hottest day of the summer (outrigger in the morning and then went out again with #H2OGeeks), rain that felt like rhinos and elephants.

It’s Race Day and a Blogathon

Its early and its race day and I thought I’d post something before I head out the door to meet up with my dragon boat club (all three teams, our A, B and junior teams) will be taking on the lake by storm.

I’m also one of seven ladies who will be helping out one of our teammates teams that they coach. As they are short paddlers. By the end of the day we seven ladies will have raced in 5 or 6 races when everyone else will have done 4. Hopefully this heat will not effect us in any shape or form as the temperature has been in the early 30′C ‘s all week. I heard today it might be up to 35′C + (that’s about 95″F). For one I’m not use to this temperature I like the mid teens – early twenties range.

So with that I have four 1.5 Litre water bottles, tones of fruit, a healthy lunch and my famous trail mix (I make about two freezer bags full at a time)

M&M’s
Shelled Sunflowers Seeds
Pumpkin Seeds
Raisins
Dried Cranberries
Dried Blueberries
*Optional*
Dried Banana’s .. Don’t like having them go mussy on me when I’m at a race.
Nuts.. A teammate is allergic to them so I don’t have them in there.

Its also Blogathon Weekend for most bloggers. Where they will be raising money for a charity of their choice and blogging every 30 minutes for 24 hours. If I wasn’t racing this weekend, I would have taken part.

Good Luck: Rebecca, Raul, Duane, Gary, Rainer, Kristi and Aidan

:paddle2: Paddle Update: I was talking to the local rep, and he mentioned that because I wasn’t the one who purchased the paddle, it can’t be fixed but I might have a new paddle by the end of this weekend or week (not the one I’ve been eying but another one). The rep also said that he has never seen or heard about my version of paddle breaking either. Today, I’m using my other carbon fiber paddle that I have (thankfully I have a few paddles) :paddle3:

Have a great weekend
