I mentioned about this dessert in yesterdays post “Birthday Weekend“. My late Grams found this recipe in one of our local papers 40+ years ago and it’s been a family favourite ever since.

Mocha Mystery Dessert Mocha Mystery Dessert

Prep Time: 10 -15minutes
Cook Time: 40-45 minutes
Preparation: Preheat the oven to 350′F

Ingredients:
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 cup sifted all purpose flour
2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon allspice
3 tablespoon melted shortening (or butter/margarine)
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
4 tablespoon cocoa
1 cup cold coffee

Mix the first 6 ingredients together,
Add the melted shortening,
Combine milk and the vanilla and add to the mixture,
Pour into greased 8×8 inch pan,
Combine sugars and cocoa and sprinkle evenly over the batter,
Pour the coffee over the mixture,
Bake at 350′F degrees for 40-45 minutes.

Serve it warm or cold and DO NOT forget the ice cream :)

One reason why I love this dessert is because you can’t taste the coffee (and I don’t like coffee)
