Future Renos & Tinkering Jobs

With in the next couple of years I want to do another reno gut of this place, I’ve already lived though 9 months of renos already in this place. As we redid the kitchen, two bathrooms and curl appeal/better water drainage in the backyard. A Halloween Bear and wooden craving are covering/hiding a extra light junction

My future reno plans would be,

  • Rewire the whole house – Instead of a set of 3 light switch’s in one, who ever did the wiring the house made it so there are 3 individual light switches on one wall.
  • Correct the mistake of whomever put the breaker box upside down, relabel the breaker box in pen not pencil
  • Line up all the over head lights and speakers on the main floor (maybe in my office too) – it looks tacky and just put up with out a care.
  • When doing all the work on the ceiling, remove the popcorn ceiling – not a fan of popcorn ceilings anyways, and not all the rooms have it.
  • Purchase a bigger furnace and remove the base heaters on the top floor – the builders were being cheap, two floors have air ducks and one doesn’t, but the house was built so you could have it on all the floors.
  • Match all three gas fireplaces – two of them don’t have fans built in like the third one does.
  • Re-vinyl the whole exterior – to many holes left by changing the gutter’s down spouts location and the old owners using drywall screws to hold up a hose reel. (the gutter guy said they don’t fill in the holes, not even the top floor .. ( I’m willing to do the first, two stories)
  • Re tile the entrance way and fix the sub-floor – thanks to the guys doing the bathroom reno, they were given the wrong tiles, and instead of taking it back right away, they left tile in one spot for days and now you can see a drop in the ceiling below. :ugh:
  • Maybe add a big fan to the top floor ceiling that flesh with the ceiling that goes into the attic just so that air can move around a lot better in the summer months and your NOT tripping over fan cords. My grandfolks had one and it was lovely and cooled the whole house down without turning on the AC.
  • Add a motion decorator to the side of the house that has a gate/hose reel (tired of walking out there with a flash light when I water my grass at night).

Some of it err most of it is more of me being picky about workmanship and laziness then anything else. But if and when I do sell this place I want it the next owners not have to worry about being mislead.

Canada Day and new beginings

Yesterday was Canada Day a day to celebrate our county’s 142nd birthday. . I hope you all you Canadians had a blast whatever you were doing.

Every year since I was could remember my family and I took in our (old) towns Canada Day parade and the rest of the activity’s afterward. And or if we were home/in the pool and the wind was right we could smell the famous Salmon BBQ that they always have…. the joys of living in a small fishing town. Though this year I opted out of driving out to take in the venue, as I over slept and I didn’t really want to battle others looking for parking.

I think its the little things I’m missing about my old place, like every year there would be a paper Canadian flags in everyone’s front lawn, so everyone could have a flag when they head down to the parade, which was done by a realtor who lived in the subdivision as well I went to school with her two sons. If I was able to find those flags I would have done it to my neighbours but I ran out of time. The city I’m in now had their own celebrations, I think I saw more of my neighbours yesterday out and about on the street then I have all year. I didn’t take part in it this year as I took out my Mom for lunch instead.

Growing up and watching those I am Canadian, Molson Canadian beer commercials on tv with one of them sticking to my mind to this day though I can’t find it on youtube. Where this person had a tattoo of Canada with the flag filling it in.. (tired googling but found more American tattoos of that style.) Since I first saw that commercial I wanted that tattoo or something close to it, to mark that I was a proud Canadian.

We all show how patriotic we are to our country in different ways: some are willing fight and die for us, others will be presenting their county at a sporting event or flying their country flag all year long (not just on the country birthday). Like many, I have opted for a Canadian Maple Leaf tattoo with a dragon boat paddle.

To the neighbours to the south have a great 4th of July this weekend.

How did you spend your Canada Day / July 1st?
How patriotic are you? Just on your countries birthday or all year long?
Would you ever get a patriotic tattoo?
